The OHCHR Gender Equality Strategic Plan (2012-2013) is the internal implementation framework of the OHCHR Gender Equality Policy adopted on 9 September 2011. The Strategic Plan lays out concrete actions to advance gender equality, in both the institutional setting and the work of the Office.
This means giving consideration to differentiated concerns and experience of women and men so that they benefit equally from opportunities. Gender must be mainstreamed into the major dimensions of OHCHR's work: standard-setting, advocacy, monitoring, and implementation on the ground.
This also means fighting gender-based discrimination in the workplace, including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or discrimination based on family situations, lifestyle choices or obligations outside of work.
Amongst the Plan’s expected results is an e-learning module on gender integration in OHCHR. The module will adopt a rights-based approach to gender issues and be tailored to OHCHR mandate and institutional context. Its objective is to strengthen the Office staff knowledge and skills to effectively integrate a gender perspective in their work. The module will be made accessible at HQ and in the field in English by end 2013 (to be translated into French and Spanish in 2014).
The module will complement the UNWomen basic online course on Gender Equality, which is presently being peer-reviewed by 13 agencies including OHCHR and should be ready by September 2013.
ITCILO will partner with OHCHR gender content experts to develop the e-learning module.
